The Day Ginger Snapped part 25
Download wordart here“Ginger, is that you?” Jeremy asked after I stood and began walking toward the front of the bus.
I had sat, glued to my seat, while everyone exited the bus at the last stop. I saw Jeremy watching me in his rear view mirror, but I wasn’t sure if he recognized me or was just waiting for me to leave like everyone else had.
I tried to smile as I answered, “Yes, I’m Ginger and if I’m not mistaken you’re Jeremy. Am I right?”
He smiled a genuine smile as he answered. “Yeah, it’s me. I was beginning to wonder if you were going to talk to me or not. You’ve been sitting on this bus for hours.”
I could feel my face turning red. “You mean you knew who I was the whole time?”
“Well, I wasn’t sure at first, but you stayed on the bus and didn’t take any pictures. Plus, you kept staring at me and I heard some of the other passengers talking about your phone conversation.
I threw myself into the seat behind his and tried not to cry. “I’m sorry. I was just trying to work up the courage to talk to you.”
Jeremy laughed. “I completely understand. I wasn’t sure if I should talk to you or just let you get off the bus.”
“Well, I’m glad you decided to talk to me.” I was surprised to find that I actually meant what I was saying.
“Listen, I need to return the bus to the garage. Would you like to come along for the ride? We can grab a bite to eat at this little diner that’s close by and then I’ll take you to your car or your hotel or something.”
“Uuummm…sure. I think that sounds like fun.”
Jeremy turned around and put the bus into gear. As we started moving, he said, “Sit down, shut up and hold on!”
We both laughed and it felt good.
