The Story of Me part 14

January 10, 1990

Pat pushed the baby’s stroller out of the Office of Child Protection Services walked to the bus stop on the corner and sat down on the bench. So much had changed in her life over the last year. She had opened her home to an alcoholic woman and her grandchild. She was thrilled when that woman had started dating a taxi driver. She had grown closer to those three people than she expected to and was proud of the small dysfunctional family they had formed. Then her world had crashed around her when the taxi driver was murdered and the woman was so heartbroken she had left town without a word to anyone.

Pat exhaled loudly then wiped at her forehead with one hand and rocked the stroller with the other. At least Clara had left the baby behind. “Don’t you worry, Harmony. I’m never going to leave you.” Pat continued to rock the stroller and the baby made sounds of approval. “I don’t know why God wanted your momma or your grandma to leave you behind and that doesn’t matter now because you’re mine.

Pat reached into the stroller, picked up some folded papers she had placed there earlier and held them up for the baby to see. “These papers are official. They just gave me temporary custody of you. Once they see how well you and me get along, they’ll make it permanent. I know they will. Then you and I will be family for ever and ever. You don’t ever have to worry about being left behind again.”

Pat tucked the papers back into the stroller and stood to head home humming a lullaby for the baby as she walked.

Vacation time......Kind of.....

Download wordart here

You know, I had originally preposted this blog post to tell you how I would be getting on a plane after school and flying off to enjoy my birthday. It hurt when I had to come in and delete all that good news! Of course, it didn't hurt as much as Batman's (OCG) knee is hurting!

We won't be on a plane tonight. Instead, OCG is still in the hospital getting ready for knee surgery on Friday morning. They said that he was lucky because there was no nerve damage or damaged blood vessels around the knee. I had no idea that it could have been that bad!

I know he's spending Friday night in the hospital and probably the weekend. Then he's got at least 6 weeks of recovery time. OUCH!

I'll still be taking the personal days I put in for at work, but it doesn't sound like I'll be enjoying those days too much. He is so going to owe me when all of this is over!

Now, I have a serious question for you. Is it going to be too confusing if I stop calling Brent Orange Croc Guy and start referring to him as Batman? Maybe I should hyphenate and call him Orange Croc Batman...what do you think?

Apparently.....

Download wordart here

Apparently, I won't be having the birthday celebration I thought I would be having and it's all Michael Jordan and Batman's fault. Seriously!

Around 10:30 this morning I realized I had three missed calls from Orange Croc Guy. I tried calling him, but his phone went straight to voicemail. A little over an hour later, while my class was at lunch I call him again.

He answers the phone sounding very strange, but laughing as he tells me he's at the hospital with a broken leg. He proceeds to tell me that while he was working out at the gym with my neighbor this morning they get bored and decide to go outside to play basketball. They were bored with normal, all-american basketball, too. So.......they decided to change it up and play "NBA stars versus Super Heros"

I promise I'm not making this up!

I also promise that OCG and my neighbor are fully grown men and not the 12 years olds they were channeling on the basketball court.

The more OCG tried to explain what they were doing and what happened the more confused I became and at one point I even insisted that he put John on the phone. I thought it was some kind of joke because he was laughing. Turns out, he was just enjoying the pain medication they gave him.

John confirmed that they were indeed at the hospital and that Michael Jordan had beaten Batman in the basketball game.....John also claims that he was NOT on pain medication. I'm still not so sure about that!

Michael Jordan (John) accidently came down on Batman's (OCG) knee after making a shot and while Batman (OCG) was doing some sort of batman-y thing in an attempt stop him from scoring. It didn't work! So, Michael Jordan won the game and the broken leg is actually a broken kneecap. OUCH!

I'm home now, but OCG is still at the hospital resting the knee that he's not supposed to move, enjoying his pain medication and waiting to hear from the specialist tomorrow. It looks like the man is headed toward surgery.

I feel really bad for the guy, but they were being stupid and we were supposed to be on a plane to Georgia Thursday night. My birthday is Tuesday and now instead of being in Savannah, I'll be playing nurse to a grown man who thinks he's Batman.

I'm having a really hard time deciding if I should laugh or cry.
