OK, so Fall Break is over and I'm really sad about that! But, check out all the postcards that were waiting for us.....
The kids clapped when I showed them the stack!
My young teacher friend, Ms. Lukow, wasn't at school today. I sent her a message and found out that she got sick over vacation and is under doctor's orders to stay home for the week. She should be back next Monday and she will find several cards waiting for her in her mailbox at school. I saw several waiting in her box and I was so excited! Thank you guys so much for everything you do for me! No matter how much I do or how hard I try, I'll never be able to repay you!

Are you still having trouble getting yesterday's word art? Email me and I'll be happy to send it to you
I was telling everyone at school about our haunted hotel and room and my assistant was very confused. She said,
"You're saying this like you're proud."
I yelled that I was and that I didn't care what anyone else did over Fall Break because I won! I won Fall Break! I stayed in a haunted room at a haunted hotel and I won!
I think everyone is still laughing at me.....at least the ones that aren't worried about me for enjoying the fact that I stayed in a haunted room at a haunted hotel are still laughing. LOL!
.
Here's some more pictures from my trip. These were all taken at Thorncrown Chapel. this is such an amazingly beautiful place! We were lucky because for a little while we had the place all to ourselves.

Post card request!

OK, I know I've been a horrible blogger and probably have no right to ask, but would you guys mind sending post cards to my class? It's been a couple of years since I've done this and I've really missed getting them.
Now that I'm in PreK and working with the Head Start program my students are probably less exposed to people and places than my Miami students were.
If you can, I would really appreciate it. Just send them to....
You guys are the best!

Don't get me started!
Download wordart hereAnother week starts with no air conditioning at school. UGH! At least I didn't fall today. LOL!
I made it until 1:00 before I gave up on the day and gave in to the horrible headache I had gotten from the heat. The movie went in and I started pulling individual kids to do some testing on the computer. About ten minutes into this my principal decided to come in for a visit. Now, on a normal day, I would be be worried about showing a movie when the boss visits, but not today! Instead I pointed at him and said, "I dare you to say something." He laughed and kept quiet. lol!
Of course, he walked back through about ten minutes later and acted like he had chill and wanted to know if anyone had a sweater he could borrow. I let him know that he was losing serious "cool" points!
On a brighter note, the postcards have started arriving! 5 postcards so far!
Atlanta, Georgia
Chapala, Mexico
Wellington, New Zealand
Perth, Scotland
Copenhagen, Denmark
So EXCITING! Thank you all so much for helping us out!

I survived the first day of school
Download wordart hereToday was the first day of school and everything went well. Right now I have 22 students---15 boys and 7 girls.
I was planning on taking a break from my post card project this year, but I had a parent change my mind today. She didn't speak much English, but she came in asked if I was "The postcard lady" and handed me a postcard from Tampa. How can I not do the postcard project after that?
If you can please send a postcard to my class from your town, state and/or vacation spot it would be awesome. We use these in class to learn about other places and compare them to where we live. I've done this project for a few years now and it is always such a big hit with the kids in my class. There is nothing they love more then receiving these postcards from far away and not so far away places.
The kids I teach don't get to travel. We have all kinds of awesome things to see and do here in Miami but most of my students won't or do any of them any time soon. Many of them have never been anywhere but the neighborhood they live in. As hard as it is to believe, every year I have students who have never been to the beach and we are surrounded by the ocean.
The postcards you send open up the world to these kids in more ways then you can imagine. After reading the postcards and looking at the pictures, we locate the area on a map. This opens up discussions about how far away it is from Miami, what would be the best way to travel there, is their weather similar to ours, what makes this place like or different from where we live, etc.
We'll be collecting the postcards all year long so anytime you can send would be awesome. Here's our address...

The longest week ever!

Why does it feel like it should already be Friday? And why isn't it Friday yet? LOL!
We got a great postcard today from The Blockers of Texas. They sent us a card from their trip to Mount Rushmore. When I held the card up and said that we had received another one, they probably heard my class cheering at Mount Rushmore. LOL! Thank you so much for the great card!
It's not too late to send a postcard to us, we'll be collecting them all year! Here's our address again...

It's time to beg again!

Today brought my 22nd kindergarten student and a building with no air conditioning. Needless to say, I'm really glad that today is over! Hopefully tomorrow will be a calmer, cooler day.
It's time for me to send out my annual plea for postcards from your hometown and/or vacation spots. We use these in class to learn about other places and compare them to where we live. I've done this project for a few years now and it is always such a big hit with the kids in my class. There is nothing they love more then receiving
these postcards from far away and not so far away places.
My school isn't really in the inner city, but it isn't in the best of neighborhoods either. Most of the kids in my class have never traveled anywhere other then to the houses right on their street. Many of them don't even go to the beach and we live in Miami! Your postcards open up the world to them and gets them thinking about places they would like to visit or even live someday.
We will be collecting these all year so if you can't send us one right now it's Ok. We'll be happy any time they arrive! Here's our address if you can help us out...

I'll keep you updated on how many postcards we receive!
I'll be back later to post my part of the STS September Blog Train!
