It was a Monday!

So, I told you how my Monday started, but it didn't tell you how it ended and I thought you might enjoying that story.
Before I left school, I got a phone call from OCG. He was planning on grilling out and instructed me to stop at the store and pick up some tin foil. No problem, right? I can do that and say I've contributed to making dinner.
However, when it time for the actual cooking OCG had other ideas. He had sliced up some potatoes and wanted me to add the spices. ME!
Of course I thought...Oh my God!
He said, "Ginger, it's easy. A five year old could it."
My response... "Then go find a five year old and let him do it!"
I mean seriously, how many years has this man known me?
He gave me directions....add a pinch of salt, some butter, garlic powder, turmeric, a little cayenne pepper and some paprika for color. Then he headed out to the grill so he could get prepared, drink beer, talk sports, burp and whatever else it is that men do while "manning the grill".
I didn't want to do it! It was too hard for me!
I did it anyway. I shouldn't have....
I looked in the cabinet and the spices right where he said they would be. I added the butter, salt and garlic with no problem. Then I reached back into the cabinet for the turmeric and tried putting some of whatever that is on the potatoes, but the stuff was stuck and wouldn't come out. I closed the lid
and shook it then opened it up, held it over the potatoes and smacked it a couple of times.
Some came out. Actually, a lot came out! A lot came out and I thought I recognized the smell so I looked at the jar again. I hadn't grabbed the turmeric I had grabbed nutmeg.
Don't judge me! The jars were the same and the spices were the same color. I have no idea what turmeric is and why does this man have nutmeg anyway?! He's never baked cookies for me. Isn't that what nutmeg is for?
I thought...Well, that's going be add an interesting flavor!
Then I reached back into the cabinet for the cayenne pepper and paprika. I also confused those too. I added a little paprika and lots of cayenne.
Again, don't judge me! The jars look the same and these two are also the same color and I didn't want to do any of this to begin with!
Now, here's where you can judge me....
I swear I didn't mess up on purpose, but once I realized what I had done I didn't confess my sins. I wrapped that mess up in tin foil and took it outside just like I had been instructed to do. Then I made myself scarce until dinner was ready.
OCG didn't seem at all suspicious when I decided to skip the potatoes as we ate and he didn't say a word as he ate his. I did notice that he spent the rest of the night blowing his nose. I guess that cayenne pepper must have cleared his sinuses. Lol!
Really, he should thank me for that! Don't you think?

Oh my God

I knew on Sunday night that I was going to need lots of sleep to get through Monday, but I had no idea just what I would be facing!
My day started with taking in my class as well as two others. One teacher had a sub that was running late and the other was dealing with a hurt child.
While I had all of these kids in my room two of them decided it would be a good idea to start hitting each other and a new student was delivered to my class.
I should also tell you that our clocks were broken. They were all stuck at 7:40 and I had my principal and assistant principal in and out of my room a couple of times. At one point my principal stuck his
head in and asked why I hadn't started my day yet. I pointed out that we were still watching morning announcements. The next thing I saw was my principal on the TV. How that dude got from my room to the TV studio that fast is beyond me. Do male witches ride on brooms?
Eventually, the two extra classes I had in my room left and I was able to talk to my new student and get him settled in. Actually, I talked to him only to learn that he was fresh from Peru and spoke no English. Well, in all fairness, I should let you know that he knows three words in English. Those words are...."Oh my God".
He said those three words quite often today!
When he realized he had to wait in line for the water fountain...Oh my God
When I showed him flash cards and asked him to repeat the words....Oh my God
When he realized there was math work on thr front and back of his paper...Oh my God
After he very excitedly tried to tell, ask and/or explain something to me then stared at me hopefully while waiting for my response only to be disappointed when I answered with one of the few Spanish words I know..."taco?"...Oh my God
When I tried to take back the word taco and said, "si?"...Oh my God
I didn't think my ability to order a beer in Spanish would help him any, but I have a feeling it's going to help me bunches before the year is over!
At the end of the day as the kids were packing up I watched them and thought....
"I have to teach one English. I have to keep one calm so he doesn't freak out and ruin everyone's day. I have to help one who gets no help from home. I have to comfort one who cries everytime she sees her big sister and everytime she doesn't see her sister. I have to convince one that not everything is the letter "a". I have to teach one to write her name because no matter how hard she tries, she just doesn't get it. I have to remediate these students and challenge those students. And I have to do all of this and more while getting all of them ready for a standardized test that I don't believe in and still maintain their sense of wonder and make believe."
And then I thought.....
"Oh my God!"

Another wasted weekend.

I woke up Saturday and I wasn't feeling so well so after a quick trip to the grocery store I came home and spent the rest of the day lying around in pajamas and watching TV. OCG spent most of the day with me after coming over with soup and lemon Italian Ice. He's such a rock star!
Even though I felt better on Sunday, I pretty much hung out doing the same thing I did on Saturday. It was awesome!
Now, I have to get ready for bed so I can face another week of work.
Next weekend should be more exciting. We're going to the rib festival and the South Florida Day of the Dead celebration.

Oh man!

Thursday night I agreed to do a favor for someone. It wasn't really something I wanted to do, but that's how life is. Right? Isn't that why these things are called "favors".
Anyway, this favor turned into a three hour ordeal that still wasn't finished when I finally had to call it a night and move on to something I actually wanted to do. Lol!
As I was working on this project for my friend she came by to check up on me. I heard her call out my name and replied by saying, "I hear the voice of someone I want to smack."
I was just kidding.....kind of...
She laughed and thanked me again for helping. I asked what time it was and learned that it was almost 9PM and I had been working, nonstop, since just after 6PM.
I let her know that I had said more bad words since 6 o'clock than I had used all week long and that I had used LOTS of bad words this week.
This time.... I wasn't kidding!
