My mom says I'm pretty!
Download word art here
So, for the last year and a half I've needed glasses. I really don't like them and I'm looking forward to the day I hear that I can get lasik, but for now I need the glasses.
Right as we started calendar time this morning I removed my glasses to wipe away a smudge. I proceeded to ask questions, but no one was answering. Every student in my class was laughing.
I looked up to see what was going on cause I must have missed something and I wanted to laugh too. I didn't see anything funny. So, I put the glasses back on so that I could see better and I still didn't see anything funny.
Confused, I asked my class hat they were laughing at only to have half of them call out, "Your face!"
Yep, happy Monday morning to me.

I don't know what happened but....

I don't know what happened to the rest of my post yesterday, but you guys missed my stories of the day and the rest of my photos from the abandoned tourist trap.
You missed the story about how I went out with two of my friends to look for "interesting" things to photograph and we all had a different idea of what "interesting" means.
I was looking for abandoned places. Friend number 1 was looking for landscape photos and friend number 2 wanted to photograph "pretty" things.
Abandoned buildings are pretty too! In their own sad and lonely way...
You missed the story about how I was behind this building trying to get a shot when I walked into a rusted fence that had fallen down. Little Miss "Pretty Things" announced, "Great, now you're going to get hepatitis and die!" I laughed it off because even though it hurt I wasn't cut or anything and said, "At least I got the shot."
Seriously though, can you get hepatitis from an old rusted fence?
You missed the story about how we moved on to the next abandoned place and after walking into a spider web I screamed and left. Little Miss "Landscape Photos" laughed at me saying, "You're scared of a spider web but not the infectious disease you could get from a rusted fence?"
For the record, I am NOT scared of spider webs. I'm scared of the spiders that live in them.
Seriously though, is hepatitis infectious? I do have a bruise where I hit the fence.
You missed the warning about all the abandoned photos I have to share with you guys cause other than this building we also found an abandoned apartment building, two other buildings, a house and a motel. It was a fun day!
You missed the story about how we were headed back to Miami when I suddenly turned the car around around because I saw a fireplace. Literally.....I saw a fireplace...
You kind of have to turn the car around when you see something like that and you have a camera. I'm pretty sure it's the law!
You missed the story about how as I making last night's post I started getting text messages from another one of my friends saying that they were making an imaginary fight bracket and that I had lost to her in the first round. Then she proceeded to send additional texts letting me know how the totally imaginary fights were going.
Her final text was..."It was intense. Took us over an hour to complete."
I'm guessing someone had more than one cocktail at dinner!
Anyway, here are the rest of the photos you missed yesterday...

If you visited Florida back in the day you probably remember places like this one that dotted the highways.

No more bully!
Download word art here
According to Sebastian's mom the kid who was making fun of him has apologized. The kid even offered to help Sebastian carry his books.
I'm guessing someone had a nice long heart to heart with the kid and I am so glad his heart was open enough to hear their words.
So, Sebastian has survived his first bully. I hate that he had to go through it, because I can't help but feel like some of his innocence was lost.
However, he survived and he will be a little stronger when the next bully shows up.

Small Victories
Download word art here
The Miami Dade County Public School System has announced that they will FINALLY cut back on some of their required testing! They are saying that this will result in up to 260 minutes of additional instruction time.
That's a little over FOUR HOURS of testing that these poor children won't have to endure.
I think it's awesome!
It's still just a small victory though because there are still lots and lots and lots of tests that are required thanks to that whole stupid "no child left untested" mentality of the powers that be.
But...a victory is a victory and I am happy!

Odd & Ends

I've gotten lots of questions lately so I thought I would take a minute to answer some of them.
I teach Kindergarten in Miami. My school isn't in the best neighborhood and the teachers have to purchase most of their own supplies for the class and the kids. I purchase all art supplies on my own! But....I have some of the best blog readers in the world and you guys have taken good care of me and my class. THANKS!
Sebastian is doing well and doesn't have another surgery scheduled anytime soon. Despite his recent bully run in he's still the happiest kid alive. I've asked for the name of the little girl who stood up for him, but haven't gotten it yet. His mom forgot and she wants to be careful about bringing it up to him again.
I don't sell my word art or photos anywhere, but you can always make a paypal donation if you would like. I won't turn it down. lol!
I will gladly make a special request word art for you, but since I work and play a lot I may need a few days before getting it to you.
Now, even though I still have a ton of photos from my North Carolina trip, today will be the last day I share some with you. I don't want you to overdose on my photos. Of course, if you cry and beg for more I'll share them because I don't want to be the reason you cry. lol!
BE WARNED...in 24 days Orange Croc Guy and I are heading back to the mountains. This time we'll be staying in Tennessee and I'll have a bazillion more pictures to bore you with. lol!
PLUS...I'm probably going to need another run away day or two between now and then. I'll make sure I document that too.

Abandoned Hotel
Download word art here
The first rule of Urban Explorers is that you don't vandalize the places you explore and that includes breaking into them. It's acceptable to enter through an opening that someone else has already created. So, basically we enter, but we don't break and enter.
That's why it was so heart breaking when we couldn't find a way to enter this abandoned hotel in Boone. We could see rooms that still had TVs and furniture and mattress' stacked on the floor. All photos had to be taken through the strong, sturdy fence that surrounded the whole hotel.
