UGH!

Download word art here

Seriously I'm tired. Tired of everything!  You may not want to read this post because it's mostly going to be one complaint after another.

Our Elf on the Shelf showed up in class yesterday and didn't even survive one day before a certain little boy decided to break the only rule we were given an touch him.  When I asked why he said, "Cause I wanted to. It's fake anyway so I don't care."

While we were at lunch Santa flew into town to rescue Bryan and take him back to the North Pole so he could heal.  The kid still didn't seem to care.

Is it bad that I wanted to cry and scream, "You ruined Christmas!"?

Don't worry I didn't do it, but I really wanted to!

Seriously, he's five!   He's supposed to believe in Elfs and magic!  Why doesn't he believe?  Why doesn't he care?

Of course, at this point, I guess I should just be glad he touched the elf instead of stealing him.

Did I tell you the stealing story?

When I was in Tennessee most of the kids in my class got together and decided to help themselves to our crayon, glue stick and eraser supply.  Some of them took entire boxes of crayons others were smarter/sneakier and took the crayons but left me the empty boxes.

Those kids who I have gone to bat for and fought for and begged complete strangers for donations for decided to help themselves to everything we had except for two boxes of crayons.

When I asked why they would steal from me most of them had nothing to say an others gave the standard "Cause I wanted to" answer.

Some of their parents apologized , some bought crayons to replace the ones their children stole, other had no response to the news at all and one even went out and bought her child a giant box of crayons and said he wouldn't nee to steal any now.

After school today there was a not so fun meeting and it's going to be followed up and what I'm sure will be an even less fun meeting after school tomorrow.

Is it bad that I'm hoping for my fever to come back so I can miss it all?

Seriously, does anyone have a non-teaching job they would like to hire me for cause this year is kicking my butt!

OK, I've complained enough.

Let's look at some more pictures from Tennessee and  pretend I'm still on vacation. These were taken in Cades Cove which is a true piece of Heaven on Earth!

  1. I'm so sorry you are having such a hard year. That's exactly why I retired this last year! Kids (mostly parents tho!) are just not as much fun as they used to be in "the good old days!" You certainly don't get paid enough for the aggravation you go thru. I feel your pain, Ginger. I'm just so sorry.
Have a Merry Christmas though! I love your artistic nature and sharing!

  2. I'm so sorry about your day(s). I cannot fathom the concept of stealing "from yourself"?!? Did they truly not get that, if they took the items from your classroom, they would not get to use them IN your classroom?!? OMG. And how sad the parents' reaction(s). Wow.
Love your TN pix. Just stunning. You have an amazing eye and obviously a wonderful sense of where to go and what to see.
Sorry! I just noticed (I usually get you on Feedly). LOVE the "new" blog design. (which also means I rarely come over to thank you.....)
THANK YOU! Love ya, doll. Keep your chin up. You're a wonderful teacher and somehow, someone is getting something from you, even if you can't see it right now. <3

  3. Oh hon! My mind has such a hard time wrapping itself around the fact that children are being so disrespectful and uncaring. Maybe put the ones who stole the supplies in a group to the side and only let them watch the other children use the supplies that are left. If I had even thought of stealing, I wouldn't have been able to sit down for a month - oh - but that's child abuse isn't it - sigh. It's scary to image what these little guys will be like at 16. I'm so sorry that you've had to experience this - you are such a good loving teacher. God bless you kiddo.

  4. Thanks for taking the time to post, and send us a freebie, on what was obviously a very draining day. Teaching is so very hard and totally underpaid and I thank you for caring enough to stick it out year after year. I feel your pain in dealing with the apathy of some of the kids and parents, the job is challenging enough without it feeling like everyone is working against you, rather than in partnership. Thanks again, you are appreciated!

  6. I am appalled by the behavior of children these days but, back in 1966, my first day of student teaching in a kindergarten class, a little boy came into the classroom and walked up to me and said "you can't touch me, my parent's said so" I guess that I was at the beginning of the perils of being a teacher. I changed to a banking career. So, I feel your pain and God bless you.
